Comerica Incorporated is a financial services firm based in Dallas, Texas. It has retail banking operations in Texas, Michigan, Arizona, California, and Florida, as well as select business operations in a number of additional states, Canada, and Mexico.

The bank previously sponsored Comerica Park in Detroit and the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix. Comerica also supported the Comerica Bank New Year’s Parade in Dallas from 2007 to 2010.

  1. Elon Farnsworth established the Detroit Savings Fund Institute in 1849 in Detroit. In 1871, it was known as The Detroit Savings Bank, and in 1936, it was renamed The Detroit Bank.
  2. Comerica first joined the Florida market in 1982.
  3. One Detroit Center, Comerica’s new headquarters building, was approved for construction in 1990.
  4. By purchasing Plaza Commerce Bancorp and InBancshares in 1991, the bank expanded to California.
  5. Manufacturers National Corporation, a similarly sized Detroit-based bank, merged with the bank in 1992.
  6. The bank sold its Illinois unit to ABN Amro, the parent company of LaSalle Bank, for $190 million in 1996.
  7. In 1998, the bank agreed to pay $66 million for the naming rights to Comerica Park in downtown Detroit, home of the Major League Baseball Detroit Tigers.
  8. The bank struck a partnership with MBNA after selling its credit card operations to the corporation in 2000.
  9. The bank paid $1.03 billion for Sterling Bank of Texas in July 2011.
  10. In 2017, the bank announced ambitions to cut 500,000 square feet from its office space, saving $7 million in 2018.
  11. Comerica hired Megan Crespi in March 2020 as an executive vice president and chief enterprise technology and operational services officer.
  12. The bank declared in May 2021 that it would lend $5 billion to small businesses between 2021 and 2023.
