Most recent problems
VyStar has been having problems with online banking for nearly two weeks now.
The system was down on May 13 for a planned upgrade to a new platform, but the bank claims that all funds are safe.
Some members were able to log into their accounts earlier this week after waiting in virtual lines of over 10,000 people.
Alison Rockwell says her family, like many others, lives day to day, significantly as basic costs rise due to inflation.
“So we need to know what’s going on, what’s been done, what’s coming up,” Rockwell explained. “Buy groceries if we can afford to put gas in our car.”
Around 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, Rockwell said, a line of less than a thousand people formed on the website, but then “it redirected me and then just sat there and that swirling ball of just waiting, waiting, waiting,” he said. “And this morning, I was unable to connect.”
She stated that she has been checking her balance at ATMs, but that she can only see the balance and not her transactions.
Because the system is slow, Adam Lee says he came to the ATM during his lunch break to do his business rather than wait in a line of 21,000 people.
“I believe they are entitled to their money back,” Lee stated.
What did VyStar CEO Brian Wolfburg said?
VyStar CEO Brian Wolfburg told News4JAX on Tuesday that the company has been working on the new program for two years and that, despite testing, when it went live, it “took on a higher load or computer usage than we had planned because more people came in at the same time.”
“We’re allowing, like, 200ish sign-ins per minute,” Wolfburg explained. “At any given time, we have about 1000 to 1500 members in the program.”
According to VyStar’s website, the company serves over 800,000 members, which means that as of Tuesday, less than 1% of customers could access their accounts at any given time.
VyStar member Paul Fejfar said, “That’s ridiculous.” “I just think it’s ridiculous, because it’s supposed to be one of the largest banks in the world, so I’m not sure how something like this could happen”.
Fejfar said he was still unable to access the website on Thursday. On Tuesday, Wolfburg announced that sign-in restrictions will be loosened to allow more than 200 members to sign in per minute.
VyStar should have a fully functional online and mobile banking system next week, according to Wolfburg.
